Shutters of Woody Point

Artist Call 2026

The Woody Point Art Trail is accepting applications for the Shutters of Woody Point Artist Residency and Art Installation, located in Woody Point, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.

Residency dates: September 14 - October 18, 2026

Application deadline: May 19, 2026

Background:

The historic town of Woody Point, Newfoundland and Labrador, is located in the heart of Gros Morne National Park. With a population of approximately 250, Woody Point welcomes tens of thousands of tourists each year. Woody Point’s colourful downtown features heritage buildings and businesses that bustle with visitors and residents alike during the summer season.

For the fall to spring seasons, some businesses cover the windows and doors of their buildings with plywood to protect them from harsh weather. Shutters of Woody Point will invite an artist to use these shutters to create a series of artworks that spans across the windows and doors of four heritage buildings. The work will be on display throughout the fall, winter, and into spring, and be taken down when businesses open again in Spring 2027.

Please note that due to the nature of this project, the artwork will not be displayed again. It will be exposed to the elements throughout the fall, winter, and spring, and may be damaged by water, snow, or ice.

The artwork will be photographed, and permanently displayed in an online gallery at woodypointarttrail.com.
